Abbas spent six decades documenting conflict and change, covering wars and revolutions in Biafra, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Chile, Cuba, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, South Africa under apartheid, and post-revolution Iran.

EnquireAbbas joined Magnum in 1981, and became a full member by 1985. Over time, he turned his lens toward global religions, producing landmark books such as ‘Allah O Akbar’ (1994) and ‘Gods I’ve Seen’ (2016). Today, many international institutions hold his work in their collections, including the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum of Singapore, the Centro Fotográfico Álvarez Bravo (Oaxaca), and also the Jeu de Paume (Paris).
