Katie Kirk’s work is a celebration of the body, difference, and materiality. The surfaces are constantly reworked up until the moment a teetering form of balance is achieved between surface and object. Finger impressions, texture, and cracks emphasise the physicality and carnal presence of the work.

Kirk is interested in her own physicality, anatomy, and bodily sensations. Kirk sees her paintings as an extension of her body’s physical record, in that in their production, the works document her own gestures and movements. She uses acrylic paint skins in a very physical way, often modelled in three dimensions, layered, or stacked.
