EnquireStuart Franklin gained global recognition in 1989 with his iconic ‘Tank Man’ photograph from the Tiananmen Square protests, which won a World Press Photo Award. Earlier, he documented the 1984–1985 Sahel famine, earning critical acclaim for its urgency and humanity. He later contributed more than 20 stories to National Geographic, published books including ‘Footprint: Our Landscape in Flux’ (2008) and ‘The Documentary Impulse’ (2016), and led Magnum Photos as president from 2006 to 2009. Today, major institutions such as the National Galleries of Scotland collect and exhibit his work.
