‘Always In Fashion’: Norman Parkinson’s Touring Retrospective

A major retrospective of Norman Parkinson’s photography has been touring the globe since 2019. The next exhibition is due to open in Turin at the Palazzo Falletti di Barolo on the 22nd of March. The exhibition, titled ‘Always in Fashion’, features eighty of Parkinson’s most celebrated images, as well as recent discoveries from his remarkable archive and a vast selection of magazine covers from many of the major publications he photographed for. His long association with Vogue, as well as Harper’s Bazaar, Town & Country, Queen and numerous other magazines earned him worldwide recognition. He became known as one of the pillars of 20th-century fashion photography, charming the world across the decades with his playful and innovative style.

Most recently, the collection was exhibited at the McCord Stewart Museum in Montréal (pictured above), which marked the photographer’s first North American Premiere. To compliment Parkinson’s photographs, ten high-end dresses and designer outfits from the McCord Stewart Museum’s ‘Dress, Fashion and Textiles’ collection were also on display. Made between the 1930s and the 1970s, the ensembles featured French, Italian and British designers, including Christian Dior, Jean Patou, Guy Laroche, André Laug, Digby Morton and Hardy Amies.

This touring retrospective, curated by Terence Pepper OBE together with Iconic Images, was previously shown at the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Centro Cultural de Cascais in Portugal. The exhibition in Turin will run until the 29th June. To browse through exhibition in Montréal, click here.
