The Photographers’ Gallery announced Cameroonian photographer, Samuel Fosso, as the winner of the 2023 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize.
Described as a ‘man of a thousand faces’, Fosso is a leading contributor to the discourse surrounding post-colonial identity. Working between self-portraiture and performance, Fosso toys with the concept of identity by adopting a series of personas. He reimagines key historical figures and social archetypes from the African Independencies, the US Civil Rights Movement, and major cultural figures from both Africa and America.
