We are pleased to present an online exhibition of exceptional vintage and rare prints by some of the most celebrated photographers of the 20th century. The selection comprises influential documentary works by Robert Frank, distinguished reportage by René Burri and Marc Riboud, and iconic fashion photography by Cecil Beaton and Erwin Blumenfeld, among others.

Vintage photographic prints, typically defined as those produced within a few years of the original negative, have long been valued by collectors for their direct connection to the negative, offering a strong sense of archival significance. Beyond their historical appeal, these prints frequently bear the marks of their journey through time, with annotations and studio stamps contributing to their uniqueness. Such characteristics transform each print into an antique artifact.

Among the works presented in this selection is a vintage silver gelatin print by the renowned photographer Robert Frank, whose seminal series The Americans (1958) offers a defining and wide-ranging exploration of the social fabric of the United States in the 1950s. In Mary and Andrea on Third Avenue, NYC (1955), Frank’s first wife and their child are depicted within a stark interior, where dappled light falls across their quietly contemplative expressions.

Also included is a striking vintage silver gelatin print of Erwin Blumenfeld’s Nude Under Wet Silk (c.1937), in which bold tonal contrasts underscore his pursuit of beauty and experimentation with light and form. The work reflects Blumenfeld’s mastery of tone, as well as his innovative approach to pushing the technical and stylistic boundaries of photography.

The increasing scarcity of vintage pieces further enhances their significance. Although prints may seem inherently numerous, photographers produced relatively few before the photography market matured, due to the significant cost and time required to make them. As surviving examples become ever more rare, they occupy a distinctive position in the contemporary photography market as highly sought-after collectables.
