Framing

Cristina de Middel: Ijewo. For this picture, we recommend the 'BOX', a stylish frame that is slimmer from the front and deeper from the side. This contemporary method not only gives visual priority to the image but also fits seamlessly into most interiors. However, if you prefer a different look, other framing options are also available. Additionally, to ensure the highest levels of production, all of our frames are handcrafted to museum standards by one of the UK’s leading workshops. Please note that prices include tax, but exclude framing and shipping costs.

Shipping

We aim to ship unframed works within 2 weeks and framed works within 6 weeks. We ship all orders from the UK and always strive to deliver your print as quickly as possible. However, depending on the specific artwork and your location, our delivery times may vary. Therefore, for exact timing, please get in touch. Please note that prices include tax, but exclude framing and shipping costs.

Artwork In Detail

Cristina de Middel’s series ‘This Is What Hatred Did’ (2015) reimagines Amos Tutola’s surreal novel ‘My Life In The Bush of Ghosts’ (1954) through staged, atmospheric photographs set in the floating slum of Makoko, Lagos. By blending the original text with constructed imagery, Middel creates a hybrid narrative that blurs the line between documentary and fiction, illuminating contemporary Nigerian life through a myth-inflected lens. Presented in collaboration with Magnum Photos.

The Artist

Cristina de Middel investigates photography’s uncertain relationship to truth, blending documentary and conceptual practices to create layered narratives. By reimagining worn-out media tropes, she inserts opinion in place of facts to challenge how mass communication shapes our understanding of the world. After joining Magnum Photos in 2017, Middel became a full member in 2022, and was then voted as the agency’s president that same year. Middel exhibits her work internationally and she has published numerous photobooks. Prominent institutions house her work in their collections, including the Tate (London) and also the Museo del Prado (Madrid).
