SOL LDN is delighted to present its debut pop-up exhibition, Kourtney Roy: Enter as Fiction. The exhibition, hosted at Cromwell Place in London, contains 12 large-scale colour photographs. Despite exhibiting internationally for over 10 years, Enter as Fiction will be Roy’s first UK exhibition.

Kourtney Roy’s work is bound up in an ambiguous and cinematic image-making that borders the real and the fantastical. Roy has produced several series which play with this idea of the bizarre, creating hyper-realistic images that resemble film stills. The twelve works on display, all from Enter as Fiction, express the artist’s unique style through the artificial staging of her body in otherwise mundane scenes, directing the camera on overlooked fragments of the landscape to render the quotidian uncanny.

In each of these photographs, Roy is found, most often alone, using herself as the model and casting herself in the role of numerous female characters. She is interested in the duality of being both the person who objectifies and is objectified. The artist states “I want to become a part of the worlds I photograph. It is a way to live multiple lives and be able to enact the stories inside my head. A sort of escapism into a fantasy world that is all my own”.
